Bubble Gum Friends and Sweet-Tart Lovers
Candy is the creations from the third spice of life, sugar. Salt and Pepper and the myriad of exotic spices all have their places in my live but candy is still dandy. Friends can be much like the bubble gum I chew on the gum sweet at first, bursting with flavor, every mastication cherished, every consummation blessed and revered. Oh how that sweet sugar melts into my mind and soul sapping my will to be morose and replaces depression with the deliriously naive happy-happy belief that all is right with the world. Caffeine and nicotine urges are relieved and hunger ceases and every bite stimulates, motivates and satiates my senses.
Lovers are, on the other hand, are more like sweet-tarts. My immediate response is ewwwww! But in time something mystical happens. Tart gives way to sweetness and I just can't get enough of that intensity. I, for one, will munch down sweet-tarts like a man possessed and not ever stop wanting more until sadly I shake the box and hear no rustling of even the faintest morsel. Of course I notice that sound lessening each time I take one but refuse to believe the box is almost empty then sit dejected when it becomes only an empty shell. The nice thing though about sweet-tarts is that they are so distinct a sensation and intensity. I could never lose my memories about how wonderful they always taste and never will and I will always want more.
Candy is just fascinating and bubble gum after so many chews loses it's flavor and becomes grist for the little fix-it jobs like repairing a small hole in my rain gutter and sweet-tarts always get totally consumed and stay a part of me forever.
Then there is the chocolate truffle but that's another story....
