One of the things I love about Oregon is the diversity of everything from plants to people. They say I can even get the traditional Okra here at the Farmers Market in Portland - just not yet. I always enjoy Portland a city I would live in comfortably (if forced to get back to city life) and enjoy. It's a hint of Boston, San Francisco and New Orleans rolled into some of the most beautiful scenery in this world. Not far from the Mountains, Rivers, Lakes and a stone's throw from the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Architecture, Arts, Hunters, Loggers, Rail and Shipping folks and Students fill the area.  My favorites though are the Farmers markets, Fairs and wineries all are great places to go. Yes diversity does help us grow as humans and see the things we have in common and not just the differences.
