Old Growth Forests our Real National Treasure
There is a national debate on Old Growth Forests and it’s not just about the spotted owl! Some people curse the Spotted Owl as if it were a technicality hindering progress while other praise the owl for it’s uniqueness. I recently drove through an old growth forest north of Westfir, Oregon and got a hint of what an old growth forest really is and can be. On that road is a place called Constitution Grove. There are trees that were here when the Constitution of the United States was signed. I decided then it was not just the Spotted Owl I wanted to save but even more this wonderful forest and others like it. I realize how much of a National Treasure our Old Growth Forests really are and how, like my life, once gone it can never return in the lifetime of my children, their children, or even their children and beyond.
We live in a wonderful country made strong by agriculture, industry, education, exploration and freedom. Growth has been the watchword in our personal lives as well as our collective lives. Resources are becoming scarce. Fortunately, reforestation has over the years created a means of renewing our supply of wood. Too late perhaps for some our planets exotic and slow growth hardwoods but not too late for pine and other faster growth “crops.” Yes many of our forests are crops, tree farms that are renewable. Get informed by visiting a “National Treasure Old growth Forest” and do what it takes to save them. Please pass this entry to all your friends.
